Meet Jake Jacobson -
champion athlete and technique qnd conditioning coach to Olympic racewalkers.
He is the most experienced coach of walkers in this country, having taught
over a million people
how to
turn a walk into a workout - with HEALTHWALKING - his term for fitness-walking,
which he introduced nationally in 1982. He has coached several Olympians, many national
champions and thousands of fitness enthusiasts joining his walking classes, camps and
group workouts since 1967.
Having served as consultant and spokesperson for many companies, he is articulate and
charismatic, inspiring and motivating. At 76, he is the voice of the experienced coach.
His
lean and sinewy appearance is an example to youth as well as to the fifty-plus and senior
populations.
Jacobson pioneered the growth of walking-for-fitness nationwide beginning in the late
seventies. Just as he predicted 20 years ago, walking has become Americas most
popular
fitness activity. "It will continue to be the most sensible exercise well into the
twenty-first
century." HEALTHWALKING provides a better workout than ordinary fitness walking
and is safe for all ages.
Coach Jakes seminars and programs "are quite a show and quite a workout"
(Sportswise
Magazine, April 84). "A man with a vision - he exudes the sport" (Sports
Illustrated,
September 86). "Hes the Walk Man" (Daily News, March 99). At
his learn-by-doing
clinics, the audience wears athletic / walking shoes and participates in warm-up and
walking activities.
His Walking Works Wonders, the fifty-plus
fitness program, was started by Jake in New York
in 1994 - sponsored by the Isabella Geriatric Center. "It is his zesty
personality, enthusiasm
and expertise that has contributed enormously to the success of the program which has been
ongoing for over twelve years" (from the Isabella annual report).
Now, the coach has brought his Walking Works
Wonders program to Palm Beach County.
The Town of Jupiter Parks and Recreation Department has featured Coach Jake's -
Walking Works Wonders program at their new community center and it is quite a hit.
The "Teacher of Teachers" conducts
1-2 hour, morning, or full-day seminars as well as
extended courses and complete fitness programs.
